How to Find Your Serial Number
The Meter Serial Number (MSN) is a unique 8–14 character alphanumeric code printed on the front of every electricity and gas meter.
To find the MSN, look near the barcode on modern meters or next to the dials on older mechanical meters.
The MSN format can also help you identify the meter type:
- Electricity meters typically have a serial number beginning with two numbers, one letter, followed by 7 digits (for example, 16P1234567).
- Gas meters typically have a serial number beginning with one letter, one number, one letter, followed by 11 digits (for example, G4P12345678987).
